파파야 (Papaya) – 내 얘길 들어봐 (Listen to me)

Although I am not a huge fan of old school kpop, this song is definantly worth the listen with the sweet vocals of the members and their old school 2001 dance moves.

New Year’s Resolution & Shuffle-It Sunday

Hello and a happy new year to all!

I know that we have been very inactive, seeing as the last post came from when I was in South Korea over the summer in 2015. We’ve had a lot of personal and school related issues interrupt our lives and were unable to take care of our blog as we would have preferred. But, now that I’ve completed my undergraduate studies and Darice has opened up more time now, we’re hoping 2016 is a better year for ZodaReviews94. Our goal is to post at least once a week, which was the original purpose of having rotating topics. Nothing much is changing, except that we’re bringing back profiles of groups. We’re not sure how we’re going about this part of the blog yet though; we’ll probably end up just going with the flow.

Also, for pictures from my trip to South Korea last summer and from Big Bang’s MADE World Tour in Newark, NJ, please visit our Instagram!

And now, to start off 2016 and ZodaReviews94’s comeback with my all-time favorite topic for our blog, here is Shuffle-It Sunday for this week!

1. Heartbreak – N.Flying

2. Touch – Miss A

3. 愛情闖進門 (When Love Walked In) – BY2

4. Shard – Epik High

5. Crush on You – MyName

6. Lipstick – Jo Kwon

7. Hero – Monsta X

8. 남자라서  (As a Man) – Gummy

9. See You Again – Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth

10. Jiggy – F.Cuz

Indie Concert in Shinsadong – Performances by Whale and Royal Pirates

Hi everyone! It’s been awhile since the last post, and this is my first post from South Korea! So far it’s been enjoyable, although I’m starting to feel homesick now, but that’s kind of given when I come from such a big family, and now I have to live by myself for almost three months… Anyway, I wanted to share some videos I got last night from my first Indie concert, courtesy of my study abroad program.

First off, let me just say how adorable Whale was. I guess aegyo is just a given for Korean women. She was trying to interact with the other students from my program, but no one understood that she wanted some reactions from them because they didn’t understand Korean. But don’t worry, Whale! A lot of them, if not all, thought you were really cute! I got a picture with her, which I shared on our Instagram and Tumblr.

Next was Royal Pirates without James. I didn’t really understand the reason behind why he couldn’t come, but it sounded like something about a broken arm. Hmm, not too sure. My Korean isn’t up to par yet. Anyway, although a lot of the female students from my program said they loved Soo Yoon’s voice, I was all for Kim Moon, and that probably has to do with the fact that he sung a song about falling in love with him. I can’t remember if that was the song he said still has yet to be released, but if it is, fangirls, prepare yourselves.

I didn’t record the entire performance, and I’m sorry about the quality. I thought the camera I borrowed was HD, but it must not be. My sister is visiting in August though, and I asked her to bring an HD camera, so hopefully I’ll have better pictures and videos to share with you all then! For now, please enjoy the videos below; they’re also on our YouTube channel! If you want updates on my travels in South Korea, follow us on Instagram and/or Tumblr! That’s where I’ve been posting a lot to lately!

Aldrey – La Lista

It’s a Spanish song this time around up for a review, sent to us via Twitter from @pedrahierro809. Thanks for the suggestion, and send us more! There are a few Spanish songs that I like, but I rarely listen to Spanish songs, and I think that’s only because we don’t get enough exposure to it. I don’t even know where to start searching. Anyway, moving on to the review, here’s La Lista from Aldrey!

I think the beat is catchy and easy to listen to. It’s easy on the ears, and Aldrey’s voice is beautiful. It’s very unique, and it’s crisp and clear. Once the chorus hits, I kind of want to dance along with everyone that featured in the video. I could definitely see this song being performed on a stage. On another note, I think that Spanish songs sound very romantic. There’s something about the language weaving in with the tune, and then making its way all around your body.

The music video was very creative, and it’s great for anyone looking to learn Spanish.

Overall score: 8. It’s not the typical sound that I usually listen to, but I still genuinely liked it, and a lot of it has to do with Aldrey’s voice. The moment he started singing, I was drawn in, and would definitely check out more of his songs. Good luck with expanding your career, and you have gained another fan here!

Eve – Agape

It’s been a really long time since our last post, let alone our last Throwback Thursday post! So, here we are this week with one of the best K-Rock songs of all time, Eve’s Agape!

I absolutely love this song, and still listen to it these days. This is probably the only dark, rock song I’ve ever truly listened to, and my entire family absolutely loves this song. It’s a really beautiful song with quite the combo of instruments. It definitely brings me back to the late 90’s, early 2000’s. If you haven’t listened to this song yet, what are you waiting for?! Check it out below! I highly, HIGHLY recommend this song to everyone!

Shuffle-It Sunday

Well, it’s been a really long time since our last Shuffle-It Sunday, and I’m really glad to have found some time to do it this week, despite having a research report to write. This was always my favorite day of the week for our blog. No reviews though, just a list. Enjoy!

1. Kim Hyun Joong – Smile

2. Aaron Yan – 這不是我 (That’s Not Me)

3. Dalmatian – Lost in Love

4. C-Clown – 멀어질까봐 (Far Away… Young Love)

5. CN Blue – Cold Love

6. Jung Dong Ha – Mystery

7. Jun.K ft. J.Lim – Don’t Go

8. MyName – Baby, I’m Sorry

10. TeenTop – 향수 뿌리지마 (Don’t Spray Perfume)

The Ark – 빛 (The Light)

Okay! Moving on from SM to, I believe it’s Key Entertainment. Anyway, up next we have rookie girl group The Ark’s debut with The Light!

Okay, not bad. It definitely has that motivational feel, and heartbreaking kind of sound. I’m excited to see the voices to the faces I don’t know yet. The only downside is that, although I like the song overall, nothing really surprised me. It sounded very much like a song meant for a rookie debut. I like that it’s a different sound from most rookie girl groups, but The Ark is also debuting among some big sunbaes, so I was hoping they would deliver something more. I also noticed that this song has a lot of Kim Yuna rapping. But there are other rappers, right? Why didn’t it get split up a little more equally? I would have loved to hear more from each of the members? But it seems like some of the members got overshadowed greatly, and I feel like they all actually have beautiful voices. Nonetheless, The Ark has garnered my interest, and I look forward hearing more of them and seeing them grow.

I give the music video a 10 because that mom is beautiful and sure can act.

Overall score: 8.5. I don’t think I’ll add it to my iTunes, but it is a beautiful song. I first saw Jeon Min Joo on KPOP Star 2, and she had IDOL written all over her. From YooYoo, she had the most potential in the industry in my opinion. I’m glad she’s officially debuting now, and I look forward to more from her.

Girl’s Generation – Catch Me If You Can

We’re on an SM roll! We have Girl’s Generation’s newest release next: Catch Me If You Can!

Okay, I know I’m going to get bashed and hated on, but in my honest opinion, this did not help me recover from Mr. Mr., although I do like it much more. And that opening sound did not sound pretty to my ears. I had to pull my headphones out because it made me cringe. Overall, the song sounded a lot like the female twist of DBSK’s Catch Me. I can see that this song is geared more towards dance, but come on! It was very monotone in my opinion. It actually kind of bored me. But, I did love Seohyun’s and Taeyeon’s parts. Their voices never fail to get me. I noticed that Yuri and Hyoyeon got more parts as well, which was a nice low-tone to hear from them. I also noticed Sooyoung’s voice more, which has a beautiful, clear ring to it. I’m not hating on GG because I know they can sing their hearts out, but who oversaw the production of this song?!!!

As for the music video, I liked it much more than I liked the song. The choreography was definitely meant for GG. Although, what was with the random, and awkward, lip bite from Tiffany?

Overall score: 7. I’m actually feeling very neutral about this song. I don’t absolutely hate it, but nor do I love it. So, I don’t really have anything else to add. I guess I’m just a bit disappointed.
